One of the things to look for when buying a home is whether the roof is sufficient. Before you go inside a home you’re considering, look up. What does the roof look like? Are there shingles that appear to be damaged? Are there spots that look caved in or drooping? Is there excessive staining? All of these things may indicate a new roof is needed.

Another of the things to look for when buying a home is the condition of the inside. Not a fresh coat of paint. Look beyond that. Don’t be afraid to push on the walls or look in the cabinets. Check for frayed wires to the appliances and look at the age of the appliances. Turn lights on and off. The same for the water in several areas.

Checking the age of the water heater is another of the things to look for when buying a home. Look at the serial number. The first four numbers give you the month and year of production of the water heater. Usually, anything over 15 years old needs to be replaced. While you’re doing this, look for evidence of rust around the water heater. That may indicate a need for replacement, also.
